The Go Racing In Yorkshire Summer Festival, Sponsored by Sky Bet

Well what a week we had for the Go Racing In Yorkshire Summer Festival, sponsored by Sky Bet.

The weather was wonderful, the racing competitive and it was fantastic to welcome back spectators.

David O'Meara won the Goldsborough Hall sponsored leading trainer award while for the first time, Connor Beasley took the leading jockey honours, sponsored by Sky Bet.

In a new initiative, the Jedd O'Keeffe yard won the prize for the most best turned out horse awards in the Sky Bet sponsored races and Cam Hardie landed the spoils for the second time in row in 'Paddock and Chips', the jockeys' football skills competition.

Read more about the festival here and make sure you put next year's dates in your diary - Saturday 16th - Sunday 24th July 2022.

Racehorse owners have you got your tax affairs in order?

CROMBIE.jpg

For some years now, breeding thoroughbred racehorses has been considered easy pickings for tax receipts by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

Perceived as a “rich man’s hobby,” tax inspectors have been instructed to carefully examine whether thoroughbred studs are commercial businesses.

If HMRC consider this to not be the case, the so-called breeding enthusiast may find themselves receiving a large tax bill either during their lifetime or even after their death.

Obviously, anyone involved with horses knows that they don’t often make you rich – quite the opposite in fact!

Read our full blog on the best way to stay on the right side of HMRC while also being able to claim Agricultural Property Relief and Business Property Relief on death and making loss claims for Income Tax during a breeder’s lifetime.

Crombie Wilkinson Solicitors are sponsors of the Champion jumps trainer and jockey in Yorkshire competition and we thank them for their continued support of Go Racing In Yorkshire.
