Brosay Tops the Tattersalls Online May Sale at 60,000 guineas

Promising two-year-old colt BROSAY was the top priced lot in the Tattersalls Online May Sale when purchased for 60,000 guineas by Newlands based owner Gary Gillies.

The emerging juvenile was offered as a wildcard in today’s online auction following an eye-catching victory in the Class 2 British Stallion Studs EBF Restricted Novice Stakes for trainer Diego Dias last Friday and was purchased with Royal Ascot aspirations for his new connections.

“We’re not entirely sure what the immediate plan will be but Royal Ascot is definitely on the agenda. He could run under the ownership of my syndicate racingclub.com but that is to be decided,” commented purchaser Gary Gillies.

The ease and flexibility of the Tattersalls Online platform was again highlighted with Gillies going on to mention: “The Tattersalls Online Sales are so convenient. I was watching my kids play cricket today whilst bidding. You’ve done all the pre-work, all the checks are done, and you know the horse is sound, so I can bid while watching cricket.”

Having been active elsewhere in the sale, Gillies was also responsible for purchasing the second top lot in conjunction with Gordian Troeller Bloodstock when going to 47,000 guineas to secure the 87-rated filly COMPLETED. Consigned in the draft of Baroda Stud, the three-year old daughter of NIGHT OF THUNDER was a winner at two in December over a mile and has been placed three times for trainer Karl Burke.

A regular user of Tattersalls Online, Troeller made note of the progression of the platform: “There are quite often some gems that might go unnoticed. As these sales progress, more and more people seem to be more aware of them and the bargains do not get missed!”

Baroda Stud featured as the leading consignors for the second consecutive month with eight lots offered and all sold for an aggregate of 160,900 guineas. The draft included the third highest priced lot of the day in the unraced FRANKEL filly VIOLET WINGS who realised 45,000 guineas to Manor Farm Bloodstock. The draft also included four yearlings led by a daughter of SIOUX NATION who realised 16,500 guineas when purchased by Thomas McGrath, a colt by MENDELSSOHN who sold for 13,500 guineas to the Saudi Arabian based FMQ Stables and a filly by proven Group 1 sire CAMELOT which sold for 8,000 guineas to Troy Steve Bloodstock.

The sale saw strong trade at all levels with other top prices including the Andrew Balding consigned duo of CEDAR CREEK and EULACE PEACOCK who were sold for 41,000 guineas and 26,000 guineas respectively and three-year-old filly LIFE AN ECHO achieving 17,000 guineas to Brian Grassick Bloodstock.

The early stock of young sire LUCKY VEGA have proven popular at recent sales and SPACE CONQUER, who was offered in foal to the Group 1 winning two-year-old, was the top choice amongst the broodmares offered. Featuring as another highlight of the Baroda Stud draft, the unraced daughter of FASTNET ROCK is out of a full sister to Group 1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner Bobby’s Kitten and was knocked down for 20,000 guineas to OGL Bloodstock.

The Tattersalls Online May Sale recorded a 72 per cent clearance and realised a turnover of 527,650 guineas for 55 lots sold, at an average price of 9,595 guineas. Over 290 bidders registered for the sale from over 20 countries including America, Belgium, Britain, France, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Norway, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, Zambia and from throughout the Gulf region.

Unsold lots remain available and offers can be made through the Make An Offer facility on the Tattersalls Online website. Enquiries are also welcome via email and phone to the Tattersalls Online team.
