MUSSELBURGH report By Gordon Brown

A close relation of very useful jumps and Flat performer Clever Cookie, a winning debutant at the East Lothian venue seven years ago, the Henry Brooke-ridden 7-2 chance slammed George Gently by 17-lengths.

Trainer Peter Niven, who recalled a crashing fall as a jockey on the very first jumps card at Musselburgh in January 1987, said: “His dam is a half sister to Clever Cookie and he should be half decent as well.

He was bred by my mother and this should cheer her up as she had a fall recently and was watching the race from home. “He has been schooling really well and I don’t know where we will go next. I feel he might be even better on a galloping track like Doncaster or Newcastle where he won a couple of bumpers.”

James Best, winning jockey on Walk In The Mill in the Becher Chase at Aintree over the weekend, rode his first course winner on only his second ride on easy two-mile chase scorer Defi Sacre.

The final Musselburgh meeting off the year saw Keith Dalgleish, Lucinda Russell and Stuart Coltherd land the last three races with El Picador, Mighty Thunder and Chanceanotherfive respectively.

El Picador carries the colours of Hamilton Park chairman Sir Ian Good who jointly-owns the three-year-old with his daughter Catriona.
