In fact the 2m 3½f ROA Rewards Members Novices’ Handicap Hurdle saw the only favourite to pass the post in front, as the Dan Skelton trained No Getaway ran out a comfortable 13L winner under Bridget Andrews, at 5/1F.

Much closer was the second and third placed One More Fleurie and Little Jack, who were separated by a neck in a photo-finish.

Hereford-based trainer Venetia Williams, whose 11/4F Jurys Out was the only horse looking capable of mounting a challenge to the eventual winner of the 3m 1f ROA Owners Jackpot Novices’ Handicap Chase, saw Charlie Deutsch unseated at three out when 2L down leaving Loud As Lions, trained by Herefordshire based Tom Symonds, 10L clear of the field giving the team their first winner of the 2019/2020 season with the Ben Poste-ridden 7/1 chance.

The places were decided by a photo, with Stockburn getting up to beat Stop The World by a head.

An impressive training performance from the in-form Kim Bailey stable, combined with an expertly-judged ride by David Bass, saw Shanacoole Prince get up to beat 2/1JF Ask Himself by ½L.

War Lord, the other 2/1JF, finished 3/4L further back in third.

Alan King’s Valdez defied top-weight in the 2m 5f The ROA: A Voice For Racehorse Owners Handicap Chase, under newly appointed stable jockey Tom Cannon, at 12/1.

Dans Le Vent and No Comment made up the places, with the well-backed duo of Town Parks and Fleminport well-beaten, at 7/2JF. Another Herefordshire trainer on the score board was Kerry Lee, whose Brigadier Bob made all the running to win the 3m 1f Benefits For ROA Members At Roa.co.uk Handicap Chase by 2¼ L.

Owner-trainer Nick Lampard rounded off another good afternoon’s racing with a winner in the 2m Join 8,000 ROA Members Handicap Hurdle, as Ed Austin made the most of carrying just 9st 9lb to finish 6L clear of Cougar Kid, at a huge 40/1.

Gino Wotimean made up the final place of the day. Racing returns on Wednesday 27th November, with Herefordshire Raceday, which aims to celebrate all things Herefordshire and includes a Hereford themed two course menu in Rusty Bridge featuring Hereford Beef!
