Wetherby Racecourse Media Release - Nordano out to extend unbeaten run as bet365 Charlie Hall Meeting kicks off at Wetherby tomorrow

Published 2019/10/31

Two Listed contests are the highlights on the card, beginning with the 25,000 pounds Weatherbys Hamilton Wensleydale Juvenile Hurdle (2.30pm, nine runners) over two miles.

Nordano (Neil King/Bryony Frost) was a moderate performer on the Flat but has been a revelation since joining Wiltshire-based Neil King, posting decisive victories this month at Huntingdon and Chepstow.

King is anticipating another bold show at Wetherby tomorrow. He said today: "Nordano is in good form and Wetherby has been the plan since his last win at Chepstow. "He came out of Chepstow really well and we were delighted with that performance. "He loves to make the running and he again jumped really well under Bryony. He has made a brilliant start in this sphere and hopefully he can run well tomorrow."

Other contenders putting unbeaten records on the line in the Weatherbys Hamilton Wensleydale Juvenile Hurdle are Langer Dan (Dan Skelton/Harry Skelton) and Half Bolly (Mark Walford/Jamie Hamilton).

The most experienced contender is the filly Maria Magdalena (Alex Hales/Kielan Woods), a three-time winner including at Wetherby's opening fixture of the season on October 16.

However, she was only fifth behind Nordano at Huntingdon.

The other filly in the race Lady Shanawell (Ben Haslam/Richie McLernon) was also successful at Wetherby on October 16, while Olly Murphy is doubly represented with What Will Be (Aidan Coleman) and Zeb Spirit (Gavin Sheehan), both winners this season.

An interesting contender is Crealion (Tom George/James Bowen), a winner in France who will be making his first start in Britain.

The second Listed contest on the card is the 30,000 pounds bet365 Handicap Chase (3.05pm, eight runners) over an extended two miles and three furlongs.

Heading the weights is Born Survivor (Dan Skelton/Harry Skelton, 11st 12lb), who won this contest 12 months ago by three and a quarter lengths from the re-opposing Guitar Pete (Nicky Richards/Ryan Day, 10st 9b), with Cracking Find (Sue Smith/Danny Cook, 10st 8lb) another three-quarters of a length away in third.

Born Survivor was last seen when taking another Listed handicap chase at Ayr in April and has since undergone wind surgery.

Bottom-weight Go Long (Evan Williams/Adam Wedge, 10st 3lb) is a lightly-raced nine-year-old and made three appearances last season, including when winning at Hereford and when a close third to the useful Brelan D'As at Haydock Park.

Williams said: "Go Long is in good form. "He has plenty of little niggles which have stopped him running a lot and prevented him from getting to where we thought he would at this age of his career.

"We are hopeful of a good season if we can keep him in good order and, hopefully, he can challenge in some competitive handicaps this term. "We are looking forward to getting him back on the track."

Other interesting contenders include the mare Happy Diva (Kerry Lee/Richard Patrick (3), 11st 2lb), a Listed scorer at Huntingdon last season.

Elsewhere on the card, G1-winning hurdler Sam Spinner (Jedd O'Keeffe/Joe Colliver) bids to maintain his unbeaten record over fences in the 8,800 pounds Best Jumps Action On Racing TV Novices' Chase (1.55pm, five runners) over three miles.

The seven-year-old got off the mark over fences when scoring by three lengths at Wetherby on October 16. The six-race card runs from 1.20pm through to 4.10pm.

The going at Wetherby is currently: Good to Soft, Soft (in places) Today is forecast to be dry with sunny spells while tomorrow could see some rain showers on and off through the day.

Saturday is predicted to be dry and overcast.

The bet365 Charlie Hall Meeting continues at Wetherby on Saturday, November 2, when the highlight is the 100,000 pounds G2 bet365 Charlie Hall Chase (3.40pm, 12 entries).

The final fields for Saturday will be known shortly after 10.00am tomorrow.
