A first ride at the East Lothian venue for Gianluca Sanna, the 13/2 chance just fended off fast-finishing Six Strings by a head.

Goldie said: “We had a few of our ‘local stars” chasing the big money and he is one of them. It was first time at this 1m 1f trip for him but I always knew he stay and he was given a positive ride and committed for home not long after half-way. There is a £100,000 bonus for a horse winning at all three of these meetings so that is something to aim at now.”

Keith Dalgleish claimed the opening Sky Bet Sunday Series EBF Newcomers’ Maiden Stakes with Edward Cornelius, who is named after the father and uncle of one of the colt’s owners.

Winning jockey Callum Rodriguez said: “It was a good performance and he could be a nice type. I’ve sat on him a few times at home and he’s been getting the hangs of things and improving all the time so this was a very please debut.”

Newmarket-based trainer Marco Botti sent out his first Musselburgh winner when Rising Star, the 5/6 favourite, dug deep under Ben Curtis to secure the Sky Bet Sunday Series Fillies’ Handicap.
