It's coming home. Racing is back. Almost certainly. Only world wars, foot and mouth, and now the virus has ever taken it away.

It won't even matter whether we have £1 each way or a thousand on the nose, or nothing, or even that we can't go (yet). In the autumn, Old Gold owners will descend on Exeter, Warwick and Wincanton, and we will be there, in the car park and elsewhere, dispensing Prosecco or brandy, anxious to meet you and filled with hope for a great day. In the meantime this is the perfect sporting activity to conduct from our armchairs. We can watch them romp home from home. We have had the frustration and the unease. Cheltenham seems a long time ago. Now, there is nothing but anticipation, and it will feel better each day. Darling Maltaix and Bob Pebble are being trained for and aimed at the summer races. A certain Mr Paul Nicholls has been scratching his head, wondering if he can take them to the next level. I guess his record is half decent...
