4.10pm British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies’ Handicap Al Anoud toughs it out in British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies’ Handicap
Sheikh Joaan Al Thani’s Al Shaqab Racing was on the scoresheet again as Al Anoud posted a game success in the British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies’ Handicap over 10 furlongs.
Ridden by Hector Crouch for trainer Ralph Beckett, Al Anoud raced in the first two throughout and galloped out strongly when challenged by rivals inside the final furlong.
Sent off at 7/2, the Kingman filly beat the 9/4 favourite Power Of Destiny by a head, with Warda Jamila, who briefly disputed for the lead two furlongs out, having to settle for third.
Beckett said: “I was fairly confident Al Anoud would handle the drop back in trip. Even though they went no gallop, she didn’t really get home over 12 furlongs at Pontefract last time. “
Al Anoud and Doha, who runs in the Nassau Stakes tomorrow, arrived in the same week with us last year after the July Meeting and you wouldn't have picked which was the better filly at the time. So we always thought this filly would graduate but we will see.
“I think we will stick at this distance and there is a race for her at York’s Ebor meeting.”
Crouch said: “The race worked out nicely for us. We didn’t feel she stayed the trip last time out at Pontefract, so we went back to a mile and a quarter. She saw the trip out well.
“She was in there off a big weight; I thought the Stoute filly [Power Of Destiny] would be tough to beat with the weight we were giving away, so no cribbing her ability.”

Coto De Caza dominant in Alice Keppel Fillies’ Conditions Stakes
Simon & Ed Crisford have a quick two-year-old on their hands judging by the victory of Coto De Caza in the British Stallion Studs EBF Alice Keppel Fillies’ Conditions Stakes.
Sent off the 2/1 favourite, Coto De Caza became a first Qatar Goodwood Festival winner for jockey Harry Davies, who guided his mount to a two-and-a-half-length verdict. Storm Call was second, half a length ahead of third-placed Blue Zodiac.
The Mohammed Sultan-owned winner was bought for €270,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland Breeze-Up Sale in May. After finishing third on debut at Lingfield Park, she posted a wide-margin success at Beverley 15 days ago.
Ed Crisford said: “Coto De Caza is just a little bit flighty and was getting very worked up, so I asked the stewards if we could go down early. To be honest with you, I thought she had run her race. I was very worried, but she’s a good filly. She’s got a lot of talent and a lot of class.
“When she won at Beverley, it was a quiet meeting but it’s a festival meeting here, a lot of people, and it’s very hot as well. A few of them were getting warm but she was particularly getting worked up.
“I think Les and Chris [who were looking after her] were sweating as much as she was! She’s a nice filly and I’m pleased for the owner. They don’t have many horses, so it is great for them.
“I don’t think we want to be bringing her back too quickly after this; just give her the time and see how she is, but maybe something like the Flying Childers might suit her.
“I think we have learnt a lot about her today, and it is only her third run. It is about channelling that energy in the right spot now.”
Davies said: “Coto De Caza won really nicely at Beverley on soft ground after a nice debut at Lingfield on quite fast ground. She was just a little bit babyish that day.
“We have had to work quite hard to get her to be patient and keep her head. She can just get a little bit wound up.
“She showed her class because she did everything wrong in the prelims. She hit the line good and she has loads of speed. Hopefully, we will be able to pick up a Stakes race with her.”

Blue Prince downs favourite in HKJC World Pool Handicap
Teaming up with Blue Prince for the first time, jockey David Probert landed the final race on day two of the Qatar Goodwood Festival, the HKJC World Pool Handicap.
Trained by David Evans, three-year-old Blue Prince (14/1) raced among the 18 runners for much of the seven-furlong contest, but found a nice turn of foot when asked and had no problem in holding off the 4/1 favourite Billyjoh by a length and a quarter.
Racingbreaks Ryder and Miss Information were a further neck and half a length behind in third and fourth.
Probert said: “David was pretty confident beforehand that Blue Prince would run his race. He can let himself down at times in the prelims but he was very chilled out considering it was a hot day. He has quite a fiery character, so it's just about keeping a lid on him.
“They went plenty hard enough and the race set up nicely for him. He is probably in between trips, six and seven have been tried, but he does see the seven out well.
“I was surprised how well he picked up because he was a little bit warmed up at the start. He relaxed very well to halfway and when I've asked him he's picked up very well.
“He's a nice horse who could pick up another nice pot.”
Winning co-owner Gary Hignett said: “We have two horses with David and had a third at Goodwood here [in May] with Blue Prince.
“This is brilliant. This horse has had a few hard-luck stories but he deserved this the way he picked up. “We purchased him as a two-year-old in a Tattersalls online auction. We had seen him win a good race at York over six furlongs.”
