France releases updated calendar

France Galop released a complete amended race schedule on Friday, detailing all races that would take place between May and the end of August.

The Poule d'Essai des Poulains (French 2000 Guineas) and Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (French 1000 Guineas) will be the first Group 1 races of the French season at Longchamp on Monday, June 1 – a national public holiday for ‘Pentecost Monday’.

The Prix Ganay (2100m), originally scheduled for last Saturday (April 25) as the season-opening Group 1 race, has been shifted to Longchamp on June 14. French racing restarts on May 11 in the French capital with a bang as Longchamp hosts the Group 2 Prix d'Harcourt (2000m) for older horses plus the Prix de Fontainebleau (1600m) and Prix de la Grotte (1600m), Group 3 races that are crucial lead up events for each Guineas.

The month-long meeting at Deauville in August has been maintained while a total of 17 stakes races have been lost, including the Prix Eugène Adam and Prix Niel both at Group 2 level for three-year-olds.

The Grand Prix de Paris (2400m), usually held in mid-July and acting as the final French three-year-old only Group 1 race of the season, has been shifted to September 13 and will replace the Prix Niel as the main lead-up for the Group 1 Prix de I’Arc de Triomphe (2400m) in October.
